Recurring Notification is a powerful Facebook broadcasting feature that lets businesses send mass messages to subscribers who have subscribed to your channel through chats. This feature is especially useful for continuous, effective communication with customers, as it lets you announce news, promotions or other important updates with little effort.

Why use recurring notifications?

Recurring notifications ensure that your messages reach your audience exactly when they need them. This can be especially useful for:

  • Marketing campaigns: Introduce customers to new products, services or discounts.
  • Informational updates: Announce company or product changes that may be important to customers.
  • Personal connection: Continuously remind people of your brand and keep an active connection with existing customers.

How to build a chatbot that sends recurring notifications?

To use recurring notifications, you first need to build a bot that lets users choose whether they want to receive these notifications. You can build the bot easily by following these steps:

  • Visit the flow builder tool: The first step is to open the flow builder, where you will build your chat flow. This is the place where you can create automated messages for different scenarios. In our case we use the “Get Started Template” action button, which you will find under Bot Manager / Action button settings and Get Started Template.
  • Add the recurring notification component: Drag and drop the “Recurring Notification” component into the editor.
  • Configure the recurring notification: Click on the recurring notification component to open the configuration form. Here, enter a title and select an image that will help attract attention.
  • Select the “postback” function: For example, “new rcn”, which lets you link user actions to the recurring notification flow.
  • Add labels and select an action: Create a label that helps you easily group and track subscribers. Select an action, for example a text message in which you can thank the user for choosing to receive notifications.
  • These settings will generate the following view on the Messenger platform:

Target audience settings

You can tailor the campaign in the target audience settings:

  • By label: Set messages to be sent only to subscribers with certain labels. You can also choose exclude-by-label options so that an unwanted audience does not receive the messages.
  • By gender, time zone and language: Fine-tune the audience by selecting demographic information.

Creating the recurring notification template

  1. Message content: Create the message that will be sent as a recurring notification. This content can be enriched with text, images, audio, video, quick replies, buttons, carousel format or media.
  2. Important: Send the message according to the chosen frequency. For example, if a weekly notification frequency is selected, schedule the campaign to send once a week to avoid having your Facebook account blocked.

Finish creating the campaign

When all the information is filled in, click the Create Campaign button. The campaign will be created and saved on the “Recurring Subscriber Broadcast” page, where you can review and manage the campaign. Below you can see what a Facebook recurring notification looks like.
